Lowcode development

This is the story of an innovation project that started not with an idea, but with a customer group. An insanely passionate customer group. This is the story of an innovation project that is about making life a couple of notches better for Norwegian bikers.

Approximately 100,000 people are active motorcyclists in Norway. Many of these are passionate about MC, talking about MC, and constantly walking around looking forward to their next MC tour. Together with NAF, we therefore asked ourselves the following questions in 2021: How can we create something that is valuable, unifying and completely new for the motorcycle environment in Norway?

Three surprising insights

As always, we started the project with blank sheets and a need for customer insight. That's why we set out to contact as many bikers as possible. After talking to dozens of them, we identified three interesting findings, here illustrated with direct quotes from MC drivers:

“Last year I drove 2510 kilometers, last year it was 2,662, and this year I hope to beat 3,000”

Many of the motorcycle drivers were in complete control of exactly how far they have driven each year, and use this as a measure of how dedicated they are to their hobby. The more kilometers traveled, the better!

“Let me show you the pictures from the trip to Sognefjorden last year, they are on this Facebook group...”

Motorcyclists share photos from their rides, as well as tips for nice driving routes with each other on Facebook. We found this extra exciting, because when there are Facebook groups that meet a specific need, it often means that there is an opportunity to create services or products that meet customer needs in a more appropriate way than what the Facebook group does.

“It's much nicer to drive with others than to drive alone. But it should be someone with the same driving style as me, or maybe even someone with the same bike..”

Motorcycle driving is simply best socially, but finding others to ride alongside isn't always easy.

The solution: A digital platform for the motorcycle environment in Norway

Based on these three findings plus lots of other customer insights, we decided to prototype a digital platform for motorcyclists in Norway. Like I said, so done.

After many rounds of iterations, testing, trial and error, NAF MC's new app is launched. Here, motorcycle drivers can, among other things, do the following:

  • Creating carpooling trips that other members can sign up for.
  • Find recommended routes from NAF or from other members, as well as add routes that you would recommend to others.
  • Log the number of kilometers driven per season (“Strava for motorcycle”).
  • Gather all the information about their own motorcycles in one place, in the “digital garage” found in the app.
  • Share photos from rides with other members, and communicate with other members via messages and comments, as you are used to from social media.
  • Enroll in physical courses.
  • Conduct digital courses.

4000 users and counting

The app was launched in the App Store ahead of the 2022 MC season. Then started the growth effort to get customers and users to the MC app.

During the first MC season, we clocked in over 4000 users. Braver was given renewed confidence by NAF in 2023, and will thus continue to work on the growth and marketing of the MC app with a target of over 10,000 users during 2023.

"Det Braver har fått til siden vi fikk grønt lys for noen måneder siden, det er rett og slett rørende. Det er så sinnsykt bra jobba!"
